DESCRIPTION:Farmed & Foraged: An Earth Day Brunch \nCelebrate Earth Day with a hand-crafted\, locally-sourced brunch at the award-winning Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula. \nTickets: $60 (click the ticket link on the Facebook event page) \nThe multi-course meal is being created by Toque Catering and will feature foraged foods from the nearby forests and ocean\, alongside farm-fresh produce and meats. Cider pairings will complement each course. \nGuest Speaker: Michael Ableman\nSalt Spring Island-based farmer\, author\, photographer and urban and local food systems advocate\, Michael Ableman\, will share his perspective on farming as land stewardship and the relationship to place that often goes with food production. \nMichael Ableman\, the co-founder and director of Sole Food Street Farms\, is one of the early visionaries of the urban agriculture movement. He has created high-profile urban farms in Watts\, California; Goleta\, California; and Vancouver\, British Columbia. and has worked on and advised dozens of similar projects throughout North America and the Caribbean. He is the founder of the nonprofit Center for Urban Agriculture. His previous books include From the Good Earth\, On Good Land\, and Fields of Plenty. Ableman lives and farms at the 120-acre Foxglove Farm on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia. \nThis is the third year that the Nature Conservancy of Canada\, Sea Cider\, and Toque Catering have come together to recognize Earth Day with a special Farmed & Foraged feast. \nThis fundraiser will support the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s conservation work in BC.
